Cafe Day

 CAFE DAY

On Thursday 1st of November our combined class held a Cafe day for last term's focus which was ‘Actions Speak  Louder than Words'. Actions Speak Louder than words means don't just think about doing it, just do it. We decided to have a cafe day so elderly could come in and enjoy a cup of tea and some baking for free. Any ways into my writing...

Finally, the day is here, as I walked up the ramp the morning air swayed in my face. I entered the hall, table cloths hung from tables, an awesome display of photos stood out on the wall, food glanced into the people's eyes, while coffee smoked up in the kitchen.

Guest started arriving, butterflies went off in my stomach. I started thinking about the down things like cracking my voice when I sing or dropping coffee, when I should of been thinking about the good things. Performers show up. As the elderly enjoyed their food, kids from MLH ( Moana Learning Hub) showed their talents in the performances. A few moments later it turned up to be me and my friend Kohine's turn. We went up to the stage and quickly grabbed our ukuleles. Our song is called ‘Tiaho Maira’. First strum, my head went spinning crazy imagine everyone in the room staring into your soul. We sang nervously but at the same time with confidence.

Chaos died down as there were less dishes to wash and gather. We began to tidy up and take all the tables back to the class in the rain and the take the baking back to the staffroom. It was such a fun day getting to know the elderly and doing something for the community. Now it was over and back to the class we went.
